Legislative Council of Brunei (Malay: ''Majlis Mesyuarat Negara Brunei'' (مجليس مشوارت نڬارا بروني)) is the parliament in Brunei. ==History== The council replaced the former Brunei State Council (c. 1907) in 1959 and sat until 1984 when the Legislative Council was suspended. This council reconvened in 2004. Legislative Council initially chaired by Chief Minister but then a member who called Yang Di-Pertua (Speaker) became Chairman. Yang Di-Pertua Dewan (Speaker of the Council) is appointed by the Sultan either from among the Members of the Council meeting of the State itself or from people who are not experts. The main function of the State Executive Council acted as advisor to governments and examine the government policies such as the implementation enact laws, approve budgets and revenue per year in planning progress of the country as well as with tax statutes. The Legislative Council held openly that allows people to see, hear and observe the ways of consultation was carried out. The Legislative Council conference held at least once a year, to enable it to consider and approve the Estimates of Revenue and Annual Budget.
